What you should know about our Child Sponsorship Program
All of the children in our Program reside with a Guardian, in a “home environment.” The majority of children we care for are orphaned, and all live with a Single Parent, Grandparent, Aunt or Uncle, or a non-family member. Our strategy is to provide Sponsorship within a home environment that is as close to normal as possible for these children, considering their loss of one or both parents, until the child reaches the age of 18.
Currently there are 40 children in our Kisumu Child Sponsorship Project. Approximately 85% of these children have Monthly Sponsors, while the others hope for someone to come along side them soon, and help give them HOPE for a future. As we are able, and as our Monthly Sponsor Base increases, we will be welcoming more and more needy children into our Child Sponsorship Project.
The $35 Canadian Monthly Sponsorship ($420 annual) doesn’t completely cover the cost of caring for one of these children however it will contribute greatly to the following “basic needs” for one child.
Nutrition – Each month, a supply of nutritional food items is delivered to the Guardian homes of each sponsored child in the program.
Education – We ensure the children have uniforms and school materials, and in some cases, transportation to and from school.
Medical Care – We monitor the children’s health, and provide medicine when needed. If required, we will transport the child to a clinic for additional medical attention. Personal hygiene education is also taught.
Spiritual & Emotional Development – We provide comfort, encouragement, friendship, a sense of security, and hope to the children in the program.
Commitment
It is our intention to secure a Sponsor for each child in our program, until the child reaches the age of 18. To become a Child Sponsor, we require our Sponsors to commit to a minimum sponsorship of at least one-year. We understand that financial circumstances can change, and some Sponsors might find themselves in a position where they will have to make difficult financial decisions. If you are unable to continue after one-year, or anytime after that, we understand. We simply ask that you would help us by providing a 60-day notice. This time frame is required in order for us to find someone to carry-on for you, and to ensure your child doesn’t miss a month of assistance.
